Day Writing Workshop
How To Write A Novel That Sells
A full day workshop featuring
Canadian author and writing instructor
Lynda Simmons
As a writing instructor for Ryerson University and Sheridan College, Lynda Simmons has been helping students develop their writing skills and achieve their publishing goals for over five years.
Whether you're writing science fiction/fantasy, mystery, romance or literary fiction, this workshop is designed to help aspiring authors discover their story and their voice, develop characters that live and breathe and learn what show don't tell really means.
Find out what separates a selling manuscript from one
that keeps bouncing back from an author who has sold eight novels in four years
and has seen her work translated into ten languages worldwide.
Next workshop to be held in Barrie Ontario
in the spring. If you would like to be notified
of this or other workshops, please drop me a line.
I'll be happy to keep you posted.

Comments from former students
I had the great pleasure of being Lynda's student.
To sum up how I feel about her as an instructor would be to say it's a shame
I had to wait till I was in my thirties to be in the tutorage of so skilled
a teacher. Personally, it was Lynda who helped me make the connections I direly
needed. I had read every How-to book on writing I could find, taken two other
courses and fumbled my way through several writers' collectives prior to taking
her class. The way she shared her knowledge was clear and well illustrated,
always with active participation from all in the room. Hers was not a class
that sat there staring at the clock. She inspired an eagerness in her students
I had not seen before and it was welcome.
Her course was not about metaphysics, psychology or the `why' of writing. It
was architecture, mathematical logic. We were taught how to construct a novel,
something that had eluded me until then. It is easy for me to say that she is
one of those instructors who make you eager to get to class and whose indelible
impression lingers with you long after they've sent you on your way. She's one
of those teachers you want to make proud.

As a former student, I highly recommend Lynda Simmons as an instructor. I
found the course informative and the experience extremely useful. Her teaching
method is hands-on, with guidance on outlining, brainstorming ideas for conflict
and motivation, strengthening dialogue and heightening emotional tension. Ms.
Simmons' review of my writing pointed out my strengths and weakness. In fact,
the first two chapters of the manuscript-in-progress that Ms. Simmons reviewed
was just bought by the New York publishing company of Harlequin Historicals.
I used the tips in class to land a New York agent, and highly recommend her
course and career advice.
Sincerely,
Kate Bridges
